One of our Hall Costume Award winners - a Comic-Con attendee dressed as Russell, from Up.

San Diego Comic-Con 2012

July 20, 2012

Last Saturday, July 14th, Costume Designers Guild Local #892 members Jenni Gullett, Lisa Tomczezyn, Rosi Gabi and Shawn Trpcic served as judges in the 38th annual Comic-Con Masquerade Ball, hosted by HBO. The judges presented a CDG award statue, Costume Designer Magazine subscription, and an International Silks and Linens gift certificate to their favorite of the 35 entries, Once Upon a Time in Outworld. Once was designed, constructed and modeled by masqueraders Daniel Proctor, David Proctor, Nikki CJ., Rochelle Anne, Reggie Duke and Kasea VP. In all, the masquerade hosted over 80 looks onstage—selected from the 35 group entries—though design excellence was bountiful throughout the convention, Tomczezyn says. Throughout the week, she and fellow CDG members on-site spotted stunners throughout the Costume Hall and handed honorary CDG blue ribbons and gift bags to their favorites. Among Tomczezyn’s picks were two men in striking Steampunk ensembles and a Con-goer dressed as Russell, the little boy from Up. “His physical silhouette was perfection and his execution of the costume equally so,” she says. “It was as if that young animated boy was walking and talking right in front of my eyes.”
