NBC’s quirky take on the back-to-school premise, “Community” follows a rag-tag group of adults—among them a seasoned businessman, a former dropout, a sweet overachiever and a divorcée—and their bond as a study group at Greendale Community College. Leading the group is Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), a former lawyer who returned to campus life after the bar discovered his undergrad degree was a sham. Costume Designer Mary-Kate Killilea, who began design duty on the show’s current, fourth season, says working with the actor (face of “The Soup” and host of the 15th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards), is a delight.
“He is the only actor I have ever worked with that will try on every single piece of clothing that you shop, and give you any time that you need for a fitting—despite the fact he works like 20 hours a day and two jobs,” she says. “He looks great in everything and loves clothes and fashion.”
For the show’s annual, fan-favorite Halloween episode, which aired earlier this month, the actor proved he’s a good sport, too. “Joel didn’t know what the Halloween costume would be early on, but I warned him he would be shirtless,” Killilea says of McHale’s revealing, bright blue boxer’s robe.
You can catch McHale and the rest of the Greendale gang Thursdays at 8/7 c on NBC.
