Costume Designers Guild, IATSE Local 892 is a community of diverse storytellers and artists striving to be a reflection of the cultural landscape. We are committed to creating a more equitable workplace, industry and inclusive Guild. A unified community that seeks to create opportunities that support lasting economic success, equality, and access for our underserved and underrepresented members of every identity.
It is important at all times that we confront bias within the industry and the damage it projects. We acknowledge the discrimination that black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of every sex, gender, religion, ability, nationality, age, and economic status face within the entertainment industry.
We are aware that silence and inaction harms all of our current and future members; so, we commit to speaking out and acting with care, love, and urgency.
We recognize that BIPOC, along with the LGBTQIA+ community, women, and individuals with disabilities have been disproportionately excluded in the entertainment industry. We acknowledge their genius and talents, but also recognize the inequities they have faced in gaining access to opportunities of all genres and budgets. Our intention is to listen, learn, and commit to helping our Guild achieve long-lasting change for our current and future members.
The Guild is excited to now offer Affinity groups to our membership.
The purpose of these new Affinity Groups is to support groups of people from communities that have been systemically confronted with barriers of entry in the field of costumes or have been historically excluded, neglected, or under-prioritized in these workspaces. These can be spaces to share challenges, successes, joys, to listen, learn, reflect, problem solve, and build community.
The Costume Designers Guild believes that creating these affinity groups will foster more positive experiences for our members as well as give opportunities to members to reflect on their needs and bring them to the attention of the guild so that together, we can achieve meaningful change.
These spaces will be led by Guild members who identify with each group and are optional. If there is a group you would like to suggest please do so.
